What is the scanner for? What does it do?
FPSHQ Scanner is a batch file that, in 5 seconds, detects your GPU, CPU, RAM amount and Windows version. It then sends this data (anonymously) to the FPSHQ server, which computes an FPS forecast in popular games for your exact hardware. The result shows right in the scanner window + a full report opens on the site.
Is it safe? Why not an exe?
Yes, it is safe. It is a plain .bat script — a text file you can open in Notepad and read every command. No compilation, no exe, no signatures. Antivirus software usually does not block such scripts, and admin rights are not needed. The script uses only built-in Windows commands: PowerShell to read hardware and the built-in HTTP client to send data to fpshq.com over HTTPS.
Are exe files safer or not?
exe files require either signing with an expensive EV certificate ($300-500/year), or the user has to click "Run anyway" in SmartScreen. Many antivirus tools block new exe heuristically. A batch file has none of these issues — it is transparent and verifiable. This is our deliberate choice: we sacrifice one-click convenience for safety and trust.
What data does the script collect?
Only technical hardware info: CPU model (e.g., "AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D"), GPU model (e.g., "NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 Super"), RAM in MB, Windows version. This data is used to compute the FPS forecast and aggregated statistics. The IP address is stored only as a SHA-256 hash for 30 days for anti-fraud protection.
What does it NOT collect?
The script does NOT collect: Windows username, PC name, email, phone, installed-program list, game list, screenshots, files, messages, passwords, browser history, MAC address, hardware serial number, geolocation. If you do not trust it — open the .bat in Notepad and see every command yourself.
Do you need internet?
Yes — to send data and get the FPS forecast. If the internet is unavailable, the script saves a JSON file to the desktop, which you can upload to /scan/ manually later.
What are PC Score and tiers (S/A/B/C/D/F)?
PC Score is a number from 1 to 100 rating your PC's combined power. Formula: GPU 45% + CPU 30% + RAM 10% + base compatibility 5% + CPU/GPU balance 10%. Tiers: S (90+) — top PC for 4K, A (75-89) — high-end for 1440p Ultra, B (60-74) — mid-range, C (45-59) — average, D (30-44) — basic, F (<30) — outdated.
What if my hardware is not recognized?
Possible reasons: (1) a very new model (just released, not in the database yet) — message @denissatoshi and we will add it within hours; (2) an exotic workstation card (Quadro, A-series) — FPS forecasts are not built for these; (3) Intel UHD integrated graphics — we have it, but the script may have picked the main GPU. Try /scan/ with manual JSON upload.
Where is my data stored?
On our servers. Access is limited to the project author. Data is anonymized — we cannot link a specific scan to a specific person (only an irreversible IP hash). On your request we will delete the entire session record (message @denissatoshi).
Is the browser extension safe?
Yes. The extension is verified and published in the Chrome Web Store / Edge Add-ons / Mozilla Add-ons (which require manual store moderation). It shows the FPS forecast and the real price on popular store pages — no tracking, no personal data.
Can I use it at work / in an internet café?
Yes, the script is safe for corporate networks. It needs no admin rights, changes no system settings, opens no ports. One HTTPS request to fpshq.com — that is all. For large-scale use (10+ PCs) contact us — we will provide an API key for bulk scanning.
The script shows nothing / closes instantly
You have Windows 7 or older (Win 10+ needed) or PowerShell is disabled. Open PowerShell as admin and run:
Set-ExecutionPolicy RemoteSigned -Scope CurrentUser. Restart the .bat.Antivirus still flags the .bat
Rare, but it happens. Fix: right-click the .bat → Properties → "Unblock" at the bottom → OK. Or add the folder to your antivirus exceptions. If that does not help — send the antivirus name and exact message to @denissatoshi and we will sort it out.
Can it run on Mac or Linux?
For now the .bat works only on Windows. For macOS we have the FPSHQ Desktop app (for Intel and Apple Silicon). A Linux version is in development — for now use the web scanner: upload a hardware JSON to /scan/.
