PhysXLoader.dll is missing: the fix
What this error means
Modern PhysX versions are built into the game, while old ones (PhysX 2.x) required a system package. The NVIDIA driver usually installs it automatically; PCs with AMD/Intel GPUs do not have it — which is why owners of “other” GPUs hit the error.

Causes — most common first
Step-by-step fix: from simple to advanced
Test the game after each step — only move on if the error is still there.
-
Install PhysX from the game folder easy ≈3 min
Look in
_CommonRedist\PhysXorRedistin the game directory — it contains exactly the PhysX System Software version the game shipped with. -
Or download PhysX System Software from NVIDIA easy ≈5 min
The package is in the driver section of NVIDIA’s site (search “PhysX System Software”). It installs on PCs without an NVIDIA GPU too. NVIDIA owners can simply reinstall the driver with the PhysX component ticked.
-
Fully restart your PC easy ≈3 min
Use “Restart”, not “Shut down”: Windows 10/11 Fast Startup restores part of the system from hibernation after shutdown — including a broken driver state. Close unneeded apps before testing.
-
Verify the game files easy ≈10 min
The launcher compares files with the reference copy and re-downloads damaged or missing ones — including libraries the game keeps in its own folder. Steam: Library → right-click the game → Properties → Installed Files → “Verify integrity of game files”. Epic Games: Library → “…” → Manage → “Verify”. EA app / Ubisoft Connect / Battle.net: “Repair” or “Verify files” in the game menu. Xbox app: Manage → Files → “Verify and repair”.
⛔ Why you should not download DLLs from “DLL sites”
- A single file does not fix the cause: the DLL belongs to a package (Visual C++, DirectX) and needs other files of the same version next to it. A dropped-in file often causes a new error — e.g.
0xc000007bfrom mixing 32-bit and 64-bit versions. - Nobody verifies these files: malware is distributed disguised as DLLs, and a library loaded by the game runs with the same rights as the game.
- Microsoft distributes system libraries only inside official installers. The right way is to install the whole package from Microsoft or verify the game files in your launcher.

This is a hint based on specs, not a measurement. Browsers cannot see your driver version or power supply model: the FPSHQ app for Windows shows your driver version and real FPS.

Time estimate from the guide: 4 steps, about 21 minutes. Steps go from simple to complex — the error usually disappears on the first ones.
PhysXLoader.dll is missing: the fix
PhysXLoader.dll is part of NVIDIA PhysX System Software, the physics engine of older games (roughly 2006–2015). The package is needed regardless of your GPU vendor: on AMD and Intel the physics simply runs on the CPU. Install PhysX System Software from NVIDIA’s driver section or from the game’s _CommonRedist folder.

FAQ
Will PhysX be slow on AMD?
Basic physics runs fine on the CPU. Only the “advanced” GPU PhysX effects (particles, cloth in some games) should be turned off on non-NVIDIA PCs.
Where do I get PhysXLoader.dll officially?
The file is installed by the NVIDIA PhysX System Software package. Older games (roughly 2006–2012) need the “Legacy” PhysX System Software from NVIDIA’s site: the current 9.x package does not include PhysXLoader.dll.
Do I need an NVIDIA GPU to run a game with PhysX?
No. The PhysX package installs on any PC, and physics runs on the CPU when there is no NVIDIA GPU. The only limitation: “advanced” GPU PhysX effects in some games will be unavailable or slower on AMD/Intel.
Can I uninstall PhysX after installing the game?
Better not: the game loads PhysX libraries on every launch, and the error will return after removal. The package takes little space and does not run in the background.
🧭 Nothing helped?
Write down the exact error text and the faulting module from Event Viewer (Windows Logs → Application) and contact the game developer’s support — attach the crash report if the game created one. Also check our related errors.
