Windows version
Minimum OS for Counter-Strike 2: Windows 10. It will not run on Windows 7 or 8.1 — no DLLs or compatibility mode help.
Most often Counter-Strike 2 won’t launch because the PC is below the official minimum (Windows 10, 8 GB RAM, DirectX 11, Shader Model 5.0, 1 GB VRAM) or because of the anti-cheat (Valve Anti-Cheat (VAC)). Below are 5 causes specific to this game, official known issues and step-by-step fixes.
Unique FPSHQ metrics from this page's data
Per the official requirements (checked Oct 4, 2026) Counter-Strike 2 needs Windows 10, at least 8 GB RAM and a GPU on the level of DirectX 11, Shader Model 5.0, 1 GB VRAM, and the Valve Anti-Cheat (VAC) anti-cheat must start with the game. Of 276 FPSHQ gamers’ PCs, 91% meet all minimum requirements. The main crash causes for this game: windows version; valve Anti-Cheat (VAC) anti-cheat; graphics API.

Counter-Strike 2 uses the Valve Anti-Cheat (VAC) anti-cheat without a kernel driver. It rarely blocks launch, but modified game files and tools hooking the process lead to kicks or bans.
Counter-Strike 2 runs on DirectX 11 (Shader Model 5.0). A Feature Level 11.0 error means it started on the Microsoft Basic Display Adapter or a very old GPU.
The official Counter-Strike 2 minimum is 8 GB RAM. With less, or with the page file disabled, expect “out of memory” crashes and the game closing without an error.
Minimum GPU for Counter-Strike 2: DirectX 11, Shader Model 5.0, 1 GB VRAM. At least 1 GB of VRAM is needed: with less, expect “Out of video memory”, DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_REMOVED and missing textures.
We found no separate launch issues for Counter-Strike 2 in official patch notes and support articles (checked Oct 4, 2026) — use the causes above.

A failed item is the most likely reason for a crash or launch failure on such a PC.
Enter your GPU, CPU, RAM and Windows version — we compare them with the game’s official minimum and tell you what to fix. Nothing is stored on the server.
Check Windows, RAM, VRAM and GPU in “My PC” above. If anything is below the Counter-Strike 2 minimum, the other steps will not help.
Get the NVIDIA, AMD or Intel driver from the official site only; Windows Update drivers are often old. On a laptop assign the discrete GPU to the game.
Steam: Library → right-click the game → Properties → Installed Files → “Verify integrity of game files”.
VAC does not block launch by itself: if the game does not start, verify files in Steam and do not run it with tools injecting into the process.
Close overlays (Discord, GeForce Experience, Steam), MSI Afterburner/RivaTuner, screen recorders and “boosters”, remove GPU and memory overclocks — then launch again.

Causes are built from official minimum requirements (Steam Store, publisher sites and support), the game’s anti-cheat, launcher and engine data. Known issues come only from patch notes and support articles (or outlets quoting an official statement — marked). PC shares come from anonymous FPSHQ scans (k-anonymity); GPU and CPU are compared by FPSHQ scores. PCGamingWiki is not used. More about the methodology →
