In short

What is the best gaming CPU in the FPSHQ ranking?

According to the FPSHQ ranking as of Oct 10, 2026, the best gaming processor is the Ryzen 7 9850X3D with a Gaming Score of 10,000. Gaming Score is proportional to the FPS a CPU delivers when CPU-bound at 1080p with a top graphics card, so it reflects gaming rather than multithreaded performance. The dataset lists 456 processors (359 desktop and 97 mobile) without BOX/TRAY packaging variants; 12 of them have 3D V-Cache. For example, the Core i5-12400F reaches 53.5% of the leader. Columns include socket, cores, threads, clock speed, L3 cache and TDP from manufacturer specifications. CC BY 4.0: use the data with credit to FPSHQ.

Open data FAQ

Why do Ryzen CPUs with 3D V-Cache beat CPUs with more cores?
Gaming Score measures FPS in games, and games depend more on memory latency and L3 cache size than on core count. That is why an 8-core X3D chip with 96 MB of cache is often faster than 16–24-core models.
Does the ranking include laptop CPUs?
Yes, they are marked segment = mobile. Their score uses the same scale, but real laptop FPS also depends on the power limit and cooling.
Can I use FPSHQ data in a commercial project?
Yes. The dataset is licensed under CC BY 4.0: you may copy, change and use the data for any purpose, including commercial. The only condition is attribution: “Source: FPSHQ” with a link to the dataset page next to the data.
How do I cite the “FPSHQ CPU ranking” dataset?
Use the attribution line “Source: FPSHQ — “FPSHQ CPU ranking” (https://fpshq.com/en/data/cpu-rating/), license CC BY 4.0”. For research and analytical texts use this reference: FPSHQ (2026). FPSHQ CPU ranking [Data set], version 2026.10.10. https://fpshq.com/en/data/cpu-rating/. License CC BY 4.0. Accessed 2026-10-15.
How often is the dataset updated?
The snapshot is rebuilt every 24 h. When the content changes, a new dated version appears (now 2026.10.10 from Oct 10, 2026), and the version log shows how many rows were added, removed and changed.
Do the files contain personal data?
No. The files contain no IP addresses, device IDs, accounts or exact timestamps. Gamer hardware statistics are published only as shares and only above the k-anonymity threshold; community benchmarks only as medians per “game × GPU × resolution × preset” cell.

Methodology and sources

The dataset includes published CPUs from the FPSHQ catalog with a non-zero Gaming Score, without packaging variants (BOX, TRAY, MPK). Gaming Score is scaled to the CPU hierarchies of hardware publications (CPU-bound FPS with a top GPU); F/KF versions equal the base model. relative_pct = score ÷ leader score × 100. Specifications come from AMD and Intel. The dataset snapshot is built automatically from the FPSHQ database every 24 h; a new version appears only when the content changes. Game and hardware names follow the FPSHQ catalog; links lead to site pages. More about the methodology →
